When Should I Turn My AC Off?
Posted on August 31st, 2021 by Devine Bros
The weather is starting to cool down, and we’re approaching the end of summer. With this being said, it is time to start thinking about turning your AC off. It’s a tricky topic since, for many, it depends on personal preference and location. However, there are a few more general factors that might help you in your decision this year.
Some Important Factors
When trying to figure out when would be a good time to turn off your AC, we encourage you to refer to these factors:
- Personal preference: If you are the kind of person who prefers when your house is nice and cool, it might be best to keep your AC running until the end of September or early October. Though temperatures will be going down around this time, there are still a few stray warm days here and there that might make not having an AC feel miserable.
- Where you live: Obviously, if you live in an area more prone to having higher temperatures, you’ll want to leave your AC on for a bit longer! The average temperature around the early fall season can range from 79 degrees to 69 degrees here in Connecticut, though.
- System age: How old your system is might have a determining factor in whether or not you should turn your AC off. For older systems, it can be harder to run when temperatures fluctuate. Not only that, but it could be well on its way out, and running it for too long could cause damage. If this is the case, we highly recommend you update your system so that you don’t have to worry about it next year.
- Money-saving: If you’re looking to save money, it would be a good idea to turn off your AC unit once nighttime temperatures reach around 55 degrees. This would fall around mid-September.
