Tips To Save Energy This Winter
Posted on December 3rd, 2020 by Devine Bros
Saving your energy during the wintertime can be a difficult task. With extra heat coming through your HVAC system and more people staying at home, your house will be running all day long this season. However, you don’t necessarily have to empty your wallet to stay comfortable. Here are some of our top tips for saving energy in the winter.
1. Be Smart With Your Lights
In any room that someone in the house isn’t occupying, make sure the lights are turned off! This is a great way to make your energy bills decrease over time. It applies to outdoor and indoor lights, as the longer they run, the more it will cost for you. With the holidays around the corner, too, it’s important to remember that your specialty lights don’t need to be lit up all day long. Keep them on for only a few hours at night or during the day.
2. Be Careful With Electronics
Besides lights, your electronics can also make quite a dent in your energy bill this season. Your appliances are always plugged in and running, so make it a point to unplug the items you aren’t using. Even if it seems like it’s not that big of a deal to keep things plugged in, a lot of devices and other electronics bleed energy throughout the day. You could save a fair amount of money over time using this trick!
3. Heater Maintenance
Before winter comes at us at full force, make sure you get your heating system checked. This is a great way to take preventative measures against any issues that will end up costing you way more money in the long run. If there is a problem with your system, it will have to work harder to pump heat out and keep the whole house warm. Every extra bit of energy it has to use is also additional money that will cost you. Get your system checked to make sure it’s running properly this year!
