How You Can Love Your Home This Winter

Posted on January 29th, 2019 by Devine Bros

This winter, while you’re bundled up and enjoying the warmth, make sure you’re taking a look around and examining everything that’s keeping you warm. Specifically speaking, your home’s walls, heating units, windows, doors and more. It’s custom for many people to not think about how their home is doing so much for their comfort, and neglect the conditions it might be facing outside. This season, show a little love to your home and make sure you’re doing everything you need to do to keep it protecting you as well!

Clean Icicles

As the temperatures fluctuate, icicles might begin forming on your gutters and the surrounding roof panels. In order for your home to drain this when it melts, it’s going to need to be less damaged than more. Consider using a broom to safely get rid of some of the ice forming and take the stress off of your gutters. Failure to do so might result in a leak!

Keep Moisture Out

Tracking in snow and ice is common, but keeping it out is a whole different task. If you’ve got wood or carpet flooring, make sure to keep the moisture out and mop or dry any areas that seem to be wet. Without doing this, you might deal with a warped or separating floor panel which can lead to costly repairs.

Check Your Heating System

Your heating system only works as well as it’s kept, so make sure you’re performing necessary maintenance on the unit as you see fit. Once per year is the minimum, but we’d recommend a checkup more frequently if it’s going to be cranked up during the winter. Doing this can actually lower your heating bills!
