3 Common Furnace Problems and How to Solve Them
Posted on November 9th, 2016 by Devine Bros
With the cold temperatures setting in, we will be relying on our furnaces to keep us warm. If you are experiencing trouble with yours, don’t panic — just follow these tips from the home heating experts at Devine Bros.
Problem: Weak Air Flow
Solution: Change the air filter. If you have a forced-air heating system and are noticing limited air flow coming from your vents, a dirty filter may be to blame. Clean or replace your air filter following the manufacturer’s recommendations (found in your owner’s manual) at least once per month.
Problem: Cold Air
Solution: Check the thermostat. Double-check your thermostat to make sure it is set properly. If you have a programmable thermostat, it is possible that you haven’t changed it over from your summer settings. Your thermostat should also be located away from anything which could affect its temperature readings, such as windows, air vents, or heat-generating appliances.
Problem: Furnace Cycling on and Off
Solution: Invest in a new furnace. If your furnace is constantly cycling on and off, there is a possibility that it is not properly sized for your home. A furnace that is too big for your home will heat it up too quickly, causing it to shut down after a short period of time. This on-and-off cycle can cause your energy bill to skyrocket and shorten the lifespan of your heating system.
