Things To Look For When Buying a Home

If you’re buying your own home for the first time, or if this is your next vacation house, you know it’s not just about what it looks like at first glance. For many, there are a lot of things that don’t get noticed when they’re looking — and these things can be costly! Below are a few things you should be looking out for before buying a home.

HVAC System

It’s important to make sure that you or the inspectors do a good job during the HVAC portion of the inspection. This includes the systems themselves, as well as the ducts that they run through to push the air out. Because this is something that will likely be used all year, it’s important to make sure that you’re looking at it thoroughly before doing anything else.

Flooring and Roofing

A lot of creaking floors might mean bad things for a home that’s older than you might like. If you’re able to, make sure to look through the ceilings or gaps and see if any of the beams need replacing, or if anything is broken. If so, this is certainly something to think about before you decide to submit an offer.

Plumbing

Most importantly, think about the plumbing. Do the water leak test in the toilet, check for shower drips, and smell for mold or moisture. High humidity is also a cause for concern and should be treated with seriousness. If these are things you’re experiencing in your potential new home, it’s time to look elsewhere.

Once you get settled, make sure you’ve got the right team to help handle the next few modifications you’re going to be doing! Whether it’s a heating tune-up or a new concrete patio in the backyard, it’s important to keep everything in line and properly built or installed from the get-go!
